Australian police have released a set of previously unseen photographs connected to one of the country's most enduring unsolved cases, hoping fresh public attention will finally lead to the recovery of a British backpacker's remains.
Investigators say the images, withheld for a quarter of a century, could prompt someone who was in the right place at the right time to come forward. Detectives emphasize that even a small detail — a vehicle, a face, a route — might be the missing piece.
The case has haunted Australia since the 2001 disappearance, when the young traveller vanished during a road trip in the outback. His partner survived a separate attack and later gave evidence that helped convict another man, but the victim's body was never found.
